What will the DJ’s role be as artificial intelligence changes music production?

Making music has never been this easy.

Artificial intelligence can turn an idea into a song within a few seconds. Thousands of new tracks enter digital platforms every day. The technical barriers to making music keep falling.

In 2026, Beatport’s work on a new system to detect tracks produced entirely or largely by artificial intelligence also shows that this shift has reached a point in the music industry that can no longer be ignored. The platform plans to label music that is assisted by AI but still made mostly by people.

So what does this mean for DJs?

I do not think the value of DJing was ever only finding the music, or playing it.

A good DJ;

Chooses the right track.Plays it at the right time.Builds the relationship between two tracks.Reads the energy of the crowd.And shapes the story of the night.

Technology can make some of these easier.

Spotify’s expansion of its personalized DJ experience to more than 75 markets in 2026 also shows that algorithms are starting to offer a “DJ experience,” beyond simply choosing music for the listener.

The question that interests me more is this:

An algorithm can find the right song. Can it create the right moment?

I think this is exactly where the future of DJ culture will take shape.

Because choosing music keeps getting easier, while making the choice is still a different thing.

For me, a DJ set is not only songs lined up one after another. It is an experience with a beginning, a rise, a breaking point, and a finish.

Maybe in the future artificial intelligence will suggest more music than it ever has.

Choosing which of those thousands of options belongs to that night, that room, and those people will still sit on the human side.

Technology can make it easier to produce music.Explaining why a good set feels good is still much harder.

Maybe the future of DJing is not about whether technology produces the music;

it will be about what a person does with that music.
